Utah State’s Season-Definer

It’s not fair to put a whole season on a bowl game, unless the team is in the playoff, or the Rose Bowl, or something massive, but considering Utah State floundered over the back half of the season, a post-season victory would be massive. Beyond being the difference between a winning season and a losing one, the Aggies come in losing three of the four games in November and four of the last six with a defense that didn’t turn out to be as nasty as normal, and an offense that couldn’t quite keep up the pace. But the Aggies got in, and that’s all that matters. Now it’s time to erase the finishing kick.

There’s An O In Akron, But …

The Zips are here because of their run defense. Third in the nation to close out the regular season, Akron’s D is terrific at forcing mistakes, solid on third downs, and great at getting off the field. The special teams stink, the offense is horrible, and there’s just no pop or explosion against anyone but the truly mediocre. It doesn’t matter – the defense cleans up all the messes. On a four-game winning streak, Akron tore through the easy November after getting stuffed cold against the MAC’s better teams. But if you’re looking for a good time defensively, here you go.
