For awhile now, the top two teams for 4-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland have been Clemson and Florida, respectively.

However, on Tuesday night, when Copeland unveiled the top five schools in his recruitment, Dabo Swinney’s Tigers were nowhere to be seen.

Instead, all five programs on Copeland’s list came out of the SEC. In alphabetical order, they are Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Copeland, the No. 8 wide receiver and No. 45 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class, released a statement regarding his list of schools and based it on the sincerity of the coaches recruiting him.

“I realized there are some coaches who really feel in their hearts to care about my career and life after football — from speaking on the phone for hours with coaching to texting [with them]. So, I took the time and balanced it all out to really focus on who those coaches were. With that being said, [I’d] like to thank every coach who recruited me throughout the years, but it’s time to settle. I will be choosing one of these schools on live TV at the Under Armour All-America Game.”

While the Auburn Tigers have upped their pursuit of Copeland, it appears as though the absence of Clemson from the receiver’s list leaves a wide-open door for the Gators.

Jim McElwain has done an incredible job of establishing a relationship with Copeland, which began the moment he took the head coaching job at Florida. Copeland was one of the first prospects McElwain reached out to, and it could end up being the difference in his recruitment.
