Sharp-shooting 2017 prospect Jared Ridder has committed to Xavier. The soon-to-be Musketeer announced the news via Twitter on Wednesday night

“Extremely blessed and humbled to officially announce my commitment!” he wrote. “I am so thankful for all the coaches and mentors I’ve had throughout my career so far that have shaped me into the player I am today, I would not be where I am without any of them. With that being said, through the entire recruiting process one school has always stuck out to me, and after visiting this past week it is clear that there is no other place I can see myself playing in college. I am proud to say I will be attending Xavier University to continue my basketball and academic career! Special thanks to Coach Mack and the rest of the staff for making Xavier feel like home. Can’t wait for this opportunity, and I feel truly blessed. All glory to God.”

For a team in need of some strong shooting, Ridder’s commitment is a fantastic signing for head coach Chris Mack and a great start to Xavier’s 2017 class.

Ridder is a 3-star small forward out of Springfield, Missouri. He put his full shooting talents on display at the Nike EYBL after shooting an eye-opening 43 percent from behind the arc with the MoKan Elite spring circuit. This performance boosted Ridder’s stock significantly and attracted attention from college basketball programs across the country.

Along with Xavier, Ridder received offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State. He also strongly considered Missouri State and Northern Iowa.

In an interview with Scout, Ridder said he chose Xavier because of his comfortability with coach Mack and on the Musketeers’ campus.

“When I took my visit it really felt like home. I loved all the coaches. I loved the campus and I love the way they play and their player development. I loved everything about it.”

Along with his smooth stroke from three point land, Ridder is also capable of slashing to the rim and pulling down rebounds at an impressive rate for a wing player.

Ridder is the first player to join Xavier’s 2017 class.
