Three-star power forward Jordan Nwora has committed to Louisville. He’s the No. 26 power forward in the nation and the third commit to join the Cardinals’ 2017 class.
After taking an official visit to Louisville this past weekend, three-star power forward Jordan Nwora took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to announced his commitment to the Cardinals.
“I would like to first thank all the coaches and recruiter who came to watch me play and recruit me. I would also like to thank all the coaches, players, staff members, and school officials who took time out of their schedules to host me for both unofficial and official visits. I truly appreciate your time. Additionally, I would like to thank my parents, sisters, grandparents, James Barrett, Coach Borman, Coach Popp, Coach Cabrera, and Coach Elkin for all their support through this whole process. Our plan was for me to wait until spring to make a commitment. Coaches Pitino and Johnson visited several times and discussed their plans for me looking into the future. After visiting Louisville, I was overwhelmed with support from coaches, players, fans, and the community. As a result of the combination of this support, the strength of the Louisville basketball program and academics, I have decided to commit to the University of Louisville. Go Cards! #L1C4”
Nwora is a 6-foot-7, 210 pound prospect out of Vermont Academy in Saxton Rivers, Vermont. Rick Pitino’s presentation and the strength of the Louisville program were enough to sell the Cardinals, and in an interview with Scout, the young forward revealed more details on what convinced him to commit earlier than planned.
“On my visit I talked to coach [Rick] Pitino and coach [Kenny] Johnson, they were with me my whole visit. They just told me coming in as a freshman I can make a big impact and play a lot of minutes and score a lot of points, which is what I do.”
“Their pitch was to come in as a freshman and play a lot of minutes and get to the league fast,” Nwora said.
It was with his time with the NY Rens on the Nike EYBL circuit where Nwora made a lasting impression. One of the most coveted skill sets in collegiate and professional basketball is a big man that can stretch the floor, and Nwora fits the bill. During his time with the Rens, he averaged 14.6 points per game and shot 39 percent from deep on 109 attempts.
Nwora has a quick first step and uses that to either drive to the basket or get past perimeter defenders and pull up for a mid-range jumper.
Along with Louisville, he was also considering Georgia Tech, Marquette and Pittsburgh. Nwora also held offers from the likes of Auburn, Cal, NC State, Oklahoma State, SMU, UConn and Xavier.
He is the third commit to join the Cardinals’ 2017 class, joining five-star power forward Malik Williams and four-star point guard Darius Perry. With Nwora now in the mix, Louisville’s 2017 class is currently ranked No. 9 in the nation.
