    Why You Need To Care

Rebuilding Kansas State has one more weekend to prepare all of its new starters before the schedule gets increasingly tougher. The Wildcats failed to impress in their opener with South Dakota, and rising QB Jesse Ertz was lost for the season after just two plays. UTSA, on the contrary, lost its first game, yet impressed in the process. The Roadrunners put a scare into Arizona, while scoring more points than all but two of last year’s games.

    Why Kansas State Will Win

The Wildcats own the better defense and special teams unit. They pitched a shutout in Week 1, and senior defensive backs Dante Barnett and Danzel McDaniel headline a pass defense that’ll neutralize a mediocre collection of Roadrunner receivers. As the UTSA defense attempts to gel, KSU will run Charles Jones behind a very good left side of the line.

    Why UTSA Will Win

Without a lot of warning, the Roadrunner appear to have a pulse on offense. QB Blake Bogenschutz threw for 332 yards as part of a 525-yard eruption on a Pac-12 defense. UTSA also had some ground success with Jarveon Williams. Kansas State, meanwhile, is without the quarterback the team expected to spark the offense, or any proven pass-catchers.

    Player Who Matters

Ertz’s knee injury has elevated junior Joe Hubener into unfamiliar terrain—this start at the Alamodome will be his first as a quarterback … at any level of competition. Bank on a conservative attack plan from the Wildcat staffers, as they attempt to get a handle on Hubener’s potential for leading the offense.

    What’s Going To Happen?

Kansas State is going on the road, without its best option at quarterback. Yeah, this could be a lurking landmine for the Wildcats. Snyder, though, will lean even harder on his defense, special teamers and ground game to get out of San Antonio with a win. Bogenschutz, hot in Week 1, will be cooled off by the talented KSU secondary.
