The No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks will travel to Manhattan, Kan. to take on rival Kansas State Saturday in hopes of taking the season series.

The Jayhawks (22-4, 10-3 Big 12) are a game up on West Virginia as they sit atop the Big 12 standings and have reeled off six straight wins. Last time out, Kansas dismantled Oklahoma State, 94-67, in Lawrence, Kan. Monday night. The Jayhawks used two huge runs to get their revenge on the Cowboys, a 30-9 run to close the first half and a 32-11 run to close the second. Kansas torched Oklahoma State by shooting 52.4 percent from deep and 50 percent from the field overall, while beating the Cowboys up on the glass, 41-25. Six Jayhawks recorded double figures, including all five starters. Wayne Selden Jr. led Kansas with 18 points, while Landen Lucas had a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards.

The Wildcats (15-11, 4-9 Big 12) ended a two-game losing skid last time out defeating TCU 63-49 in Fort Worth. Kansas State jumped out to a 14-4 lead early and took a 35-24 advantage into halftime. The Wildcats were able to keep up the high level of play in the second half and earned the easy win. This one was sloppy as both teams combined for a staggering 37 turnovers. However, Kansas State was able to best TCU on the boards (34), from three (46.7 percent) and from the field overall (38.8 percent). Justin Edwards recorded a team-high 17 points in the win.

Kansas and Kansas State will renew their rivalry for the 283rd time on Saturday as the Jayhawks lead the series by a commanding 189-93 advantage all-time. Kansas State seeks revenge in this one as Kansas took the previous meeting this season, winning, 77-59, in Lawrence Feb. 3.

    Prediction

While the Wildcats are seeking revenge and looking for another big win at home, it’s highly unlikely they’ll end up on top with the Jayhawks playing this well. Kansas is meshing at the most important time of the year, and it’s finally not all on the shoulders of Perry Ellis. He is still playing at a high level, but he’s gotten contributions from the likes of Landen Lucas and Wayne Selden Jr. — among others as of late. That has pushed Kansas to the next level. Expect the Jayhawks to share the ball, dominate inside and show no mercy against their in-state rivals.

    Game Notes

    • Perry Ellis leads Kansas with a 16.6 scoring and 6.4 rebounding averages. He is one of two players in the Big 12 to rank in the top seven in both scoring (third) and rebounding (tied for seventh) with the other being Georges Niang of Iowa State.
    • K-State owns the 26th-best strength of schedule and has played 10 Top 25 opponents, including 8 in Big 12 play.
    • The Jayhawks average 16.0 assists, 6.7 steals and 4.1 blocked shots per contest.
