The No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks will play host to the Oregon State Beavers in the Kansas City Shootout on Saturday night in a power five, non-conference matchup.

The Jayhawks (7-1) are rolling as of late winning six straight since its loss to Michigan State. Last time out, Kansas made easy work of the Holy Cross Crusaders, defeating them 92-59 Wednesday night. The Crusaders did make it close in the second half, as they went on a 13-2 run to pull within six. But the Jayhawks would respond with a run of their own to push the lead 20 and cruise to a large victory. Kansas featured five players that scored in double figures, led by Wayne Selden, who finished with a game-high 15 points. Looking ahead at the Jayhawks schedule, they have dates with Montana, San Diego State and UC Irvine before starting up conference play.

The Beavers (6-1) are off to a decent start in 2015, but have yet to be challenged by a power five opponent. Their last game ended in a 66-62 victory against Nevada last Saturday. Oregon State had to fight back in this one as they trailed 53-52 with 6:17 to play and used a 13-6 run late to regain the lead and capture the win. Gary Payton II stuffed the stat sheet for the Beavers finishing with 16 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Following their matchup with Kansas, Oregon State will host CS Fullerton, Tulsa and Quinnipiac before heading into its Pac-12 schedule.

Kansas and Oregon State will meet for just the second time on Saturday. Its only other meeting came in the 2012 Kansas City Shootout as the Jayhawks came away with an 84-78 victory behind Ben McLemore’s 21 points.

    Prediction

Oregon State should hold its own for most of the game, but the Jayhawks just share the ball too well for the Beavers to stop them defensively. Kansas has compiled the 25th-most assists in the nation (155), and that will be the case with Selden, Ellis and Mason all going off for double figures. Payton will have a respectable stat line, but the Jayhawks will keep every other Beaver in check and pull out a double-digit win.
