Why Kent State Will Win

Ohio’s offense has hit a wall. It put up 34 points against a bad Miami University defense a month ago, and it’s done little to nothing since. The Bobcats have scored 24 points or fewer in five of the last six games, and Kent State should be able to tee off. The Golden Flashes have a slew of problems, but the tremendous run defense makes up for most of them allowing just 118 yards per game. The D should be able to keep this close all game long. But …

Why Ohio Will Win

Ohio’s offense might be mediocre, but Kent State’s O is merely a rumor. The Golden Flashes have scored 17 points or fewer in each of the last four games and in six of the nine games on the year. There’s a little bit of a running game, but there’s no passing attack because they can’t seem to complete a third down try. Kent State is dead last in college football in third down conversion hitting just 24% of their time. Ohio is 25th in the nation in third down D.

What’s Going To Happen?

Don’t expect any fireworks. First one to score wins? That might be a little much, but not by a lot. Ohio has spent the last three games getting bombed on and blown out, but at home it’ll do just enough on the defensive front to keep Kent State from going on any long drives. Neither team turns the ball over a ton, and there won’t be any cheap points, so it comes down to who can move the ball just a little bit. Ohio will do it with the passing game.
