LSU head coach Les Miles has told his team to not do the traditional Lambeau Leap when the Tigers score a touchdown against Wisconsin.
LSU punt returner Tre’Davious White promised earlier this week that if he returned a punt for a touchdown against Wisconsin this Saturday at Lambeau Field, he would do the tradition leap into the stands.
Head coach Les Miles is having none of that.
“I promise you that if anybody jumps into that Lambeau Leap, they’ll end up with their thumb out seeing if they can get a ride home,” Miles said during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday. “It’s college football and we’re gonna play it that way. I think our guys understand that we’ll do it right.”
The Lambeau Leap is a tradition for the Green Bay Packers, but in NCAA football, a player doing it would result in a 15-yard penalty.
Miles has the same mindset as Badgers head coach Paul Chryst, who earlier this week said the celebration wouldn’t be taking place for his team either.
“I believe it is a penalty,” Chryst said. “I’ve been so focused on making sure that ball can somehow cross that (goal) line for the Badgers, and try to find a way to keep it from crossing for the Tigers,” Chryst said. “Didn’t spend a lot of time trying to clarify that.”
There might not be many opportunities for the leap anyhow, as both teams return fierce defenses that are difficult to get into the end zone against.
Knowing Miles, though, if LSU pulls out the win, I wouldn’t put it past him to do a leap of his own into adoring Tiger fans.
