Louisiana Tech vs. South Carolina State prediction and game preview. A pair of Bulldogs meet at Joe Aillet Stadium in Week 2.
Louisiana Tech vs. South Carolina State Game Preview
The Bulldogs of South Carolina State lost to UCF 38-0 in their season opener, as they managed only 12 first downs and 223 total yards of offense while turning the ball over three times. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech experienced heartbreak city in their season opener, failing to upset Arkansas in a 21-20 loss. The Razorbacks used a pair of fourth-down conversions in the fourth quarter to rally and avoid another early season setback to a non-Power Five squad.
What To Know About South Carolina State
The Bulldogs gave up three touchdowns to dual-threat UCF signal-caller Justin Holman in a shutout loss last week, and the Knights converted two of their three turnovers into points. Bulldogs quarterback Caleb York finished 15-of-35 passing for 134 yards, and he led the team with 10 carries for 38 yards. It was an uninspiring offensive effort to say the least.
What to Know About Louisiana Tech
Minus 13 starters from last season’s team, the Bulldogs resembled the squad that has won nine games (including a pair of bowl games) in each of the last two seasons. Freshman quarterback J’Mar Smith, who was playing in place of suspended starter Ryan Higgins, finished 19-of-31 passing for 212 yards, and he was not in awe of the moment. Smith read the Razorbacks’ defense well, connecting with wide receiver Trent Taylor eight times for 78 yards.
Offense: Louisiana Tech. No matter who is playing QB, Louisiana Tech has a significantly better unit.
Defense: Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs brought pressure and grounded the Arkansas rushing attack. Very impressive.
Special Teams: Louisiana Tech. Better athletes, plain and simple.
Coaching: Louisiana Tech. Skip Holtz and his staff have done a really solid job the last two seasons.
Intangibles: Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs are salty about letting the Arkansas game slip away.
Matchup To Watch
South Carolina State rushing attack vs. Louisiana Tech front seven
Bret Bielema loves to run the football—and run some more. Last week, Louisiana Tech stymied the Razorbacks’ rushing attack, limiting the Hogs to only 106 yards on 40 carries. South Carolina State is not Arkansas, so that doesn’t bode well for its chances on the ground.

Louisiana Tech vs. South Carolina State Prediction
In a battle of Bulldogs, it will be all Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs will be looking to get into the win column against an FCS team following a near-upset of Arkansas. They will be crusty, and the game will occur one week before they have to travel to face Texas Tech. There will be no overlooking South Carolina State.
Louisiana Tech vs. South Carolina State Score Prediction: Louisiana Tech 52, South Carolina State 23
