The Cardinals (7-1) barely lost against Michigan State two weeks ago, 71-67, but they recovered from that to win back-to-back games against Grand Canyon and Eastern Michigan — both by 30-plus points.
Louisville is 6-0 at home in the KFC Yum! Center this season, and the Cardinals now get to face 3-8 Kennesaw State.
It’s been a rough start to the season for the Owls, as they opened up with four straight losses and dropped seven of their first eight games.
Kennesaw State’s last road win was on February 21 against Stetson, and it appears as though that will remain unchanged after its matchup with Louisville.
Damion Lee and Trey Lewis are Rick Pitino’s top two scorers, as they combine for an average of 32.5 points per game. The sharp-shooting duo also knocks down a high percentage of its looks from the outside. Both are shooting above 37 percent from three. If Lee and Lewis go off, the Owls will have a hard time. All Louisville will have to do then is force Kendrick Ray to sink his threes and keep the Owls off the boards.
Well, there it is. Ray has to knock down threes when Louisville gives them to him, and if he does that he’ll have a little more space to work with to attack the basket. Ray will need a little help from Yonel Brown, though. Brown averages 16 points per game on 36.3 percent shooting. If the Owls force Lee and Lewis into contested jumpers, they’ll just have to hold Chinanu Onuaku off the glass, and then they might have a shot.
Louisville is going to take this one when it’s all said and done. Lee and Lewis are going to light up Kennesaw State for at least 25 points in a combine effort. Ray won’t be efficient from the perimeter enough to force the Cardinals to respect his shot. Onuaku will fall just shy of a double-double, but his rebounding game will play a huge role in Louisville beating the Owls.
