Marvin Wilson recruiting update two days before National Signing Day. Recapping the month of January and projecting where the 5-star defensive tackle signs.

Decision week is finally upon Marvin Wilson. In only two days time, the world will know where one of the most elite defensive tackle prospects in recent years will play his college football.

The five teams still in the running for the Bellaire, Texas prospect are Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and South Florida.

As of late, Wilson’s door has been a revolving carousel with coaches all vying for a chance to grab the 5-star defensive tackle’s ear. Of his final five, the only school not heavily in pursuit is South Florida. Wilson was originally scheduled to visit USF on Jan. 20, but didn’t end up making the trip. The inclusion of the Bulls is, in all likelihood, a hat tip to former Texas head coach Charlie Strong, with whom he has a close relationship. Strong’s firing dropped Texas from consideration.

LSU was the latest to make an in-home visit with Wilson on Jan. 28. Wilson took his official visit to LSU on Jan. 13, and met with Florida State coaches just before leaving for the trip.

Prior to that, the Florida State coaching staff stopped in on Jan. 26 for one final pitch.

Just before FSU, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer and defensive line coach Larry Johnson spent time with Wilson on Jan. 25. Johnson also paid a visit a week earlier on January 18.

Since the end of the recruiting dead period on Jan. 12, Oklahoma has put the full-court press on, visiting Wilson on Jan. 12, Jan. 17 and Jan. 23.

However, despite pitches from all, it’s now perceived to be a two-team race between the Seminoles and Tigers.

Most experts are projecting LSU to land the No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 10 overall player. LSU was the last to get Wilson on campus, which has proven to be big in swaying recruits in the past. Wilson’s relationship with the Tigers coaching staff is considered to be a big factor in his recruitment.

If I had to make a call right now, LSU gets the nod. Wilson has the opportunity to be the cornerstone of the new era in Baton Rouge and it’s also closer to home, affording his family more opportunities to see him play. He’s a swing for the fences kind of prospect that Orgeron and staff are going all in on.

That being said, the Seminoles are a real player here and shouldn’t be counted out. If he puts on the garnet and gold on National Signing Day, don’t be surprised.

It’s certainly going to be a photo finish.
