Why You Need To Care

As the spotlight grows brighter on Memphis, the Tigers just keep rolling along and piling up gaudy offensive numbers. A week after shocking Ole Miss—and the world—Memphis hammered Tulsa, 66-42, to move up to No. 16 in the latest AP poll. The Tigers must now remain focused on Tulane, which last won on Oct. 3 and is on the verge of becoming bowl ineligible.

Why Tulane Will Win

To be fair, Memphis hasn’t looked past anyone this season. But with Navy, Houston and Temple in the on-deck, it would be human nature for the Tigers to mail in this week’s visit from Tulane. Green Wave QB Tanner Lee should get some clean looks at a Memphis defense that’s given up 17 touchdown passes.

Why Memphis Will Win

QB Paxton Lynch and the offense is getting better, a scary reality for the rest of the American. Since bottoming out with 24 points versus South Florida at the beginning of the month, the Tigers have really taken flight. And while Lynch is the orchestrator of the nation’s third highest scoring offense, his array of weapons seems to expand every week. There’s been no indication through the first seven games that Tulane can slow down a well-oiled attack the caliber of the Tigers.

Player Who Matters

The Tigers harbor a seemingly endless number of weapons for Lynch, including four backs with at least four scores and seven receivers with no fewer than 10 catches. Last Friday, WR Tevin Jones scored twice in a game for the first time in his career, while backs Dorland Dorceus and Jamarius Henderson both had career-highs in rushing.

What’s Going To Happen?

Even if Memphis completely diverts its eye from the ball, it can beat Tulane by three touchdowns. Justin Fuente, with Lynch as his triggerman, will keep his Tigers focused on the task at hand, with the offense cranking out another night of evenly distributed production.
