Miami Beach Bowl Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

Miami Beach Bowl prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen between Tulsa and Central Michigan.

Jonathan Bass

Take out the drubbing by Ohio State, and Tulsa’s average margin of defeat is only 4.5 points. This is a very good football team, one that beats teams up on the ground. Central Michigan isn’t terrible against the run – more middle of the pack nationally – but the Chippewas will have their hands full with the nation’s No. 8 rushing attack (Tulsa averages 261.75 ypg).

I just can’t see Central Michigan pulling this out, especially considering how it backed into the postseason – having lost four of the past five games and being the benefactor of a blown call against Oklahoma State. Tulsa takes this one rather handily.

I have to side with the Golden Hurricane here. Dane Evans is going to carve up Central Michigan’s defense. D’Angelo Brewer will pick up a rushing touchdown. James Flanders will punch the ball into the end zone a couple of times, and Tulsa will rack up the yards in a hurry. I’m calling this one by two touchdowns in Tulsa’s favor.

Chippewas quarterback Cooper Rush was second in the MAC in passing yards per game, but he also threw the second-most interceptions in the conference with 13. The O-Line has also allowed 34 sacks. Meanwhile, the Golden Hurricane are fourth in the nation in average yards per game and have rushed for over 260 yards on the ground per contest behind the running back duo of James Flanders and D’Angelo Brewer. Ultimately, Central Michigan’s defense will be worn down over the course of four quarters as the Golden Hurricane pull away in the second half to win by a couple of touchdowns.

Brian Stultz

I like what I have seen out of Tulsa quarterback Dane Evans this season, but let’s not forget what the Golden Hurricane have done on the ground, with James Flanders (1,529 rushing yards) and D’Angelo Brewer (1,320 rushing yards) combining for 24 touchdowns. With those three in the backfield, Tulsa will overrun the Chippewas (cue Tim McGraw “she’s a one of a kind…”) en route to the victory.
