Michigan vs. Oregon State Score, Recap & Analysis

Michigan vs. Oregon State score, recap, analysis and reactions from Saturday's big matchup between the Wolverines and Beavers in Ann Arbor.

    Michigan 35, Oregon State 7

    1. De’Veon Smith took control of the offense with three short touchdown runs as part of 35 unanswered points. He scored twice from one-yard out and ran for an eight-yard score in the fourth.
    2. Oregon State scored first on a 21-yard Hunter Jamison touchdown catch in the first two minutes, and then it was all Michigan the rest of the way. The Beaver offense moved the ball, but couldn’t score.
    3. Derrick Green closed out the scoring with a two-yard Wolverine score. Kenny Allen – the Michigan kicking game has been a concern – hit two field goals.

    Michigan

That’s how it’s all supposed to work. It took a quarter, and it took a few Jake Rudock mistakes, but it all started to fly with the running game finally – FINALLY – showing a major sign of life. Oregon State’s run defense can play – Gary Andersen’s defenses can always get nasty – and the Michigan offensive line got into a lather as the game went on. That’s about as physical as the Michigan ground game has been in a long, long time. Now it’s up to Rudock to stop making mistakes.

    – De’Veon Smith ran 23 times for 126 yards and three scores

    – Jake Rudock threw a pick and lost a fumble, but he completed 18-of-26 passes for 180 yards

    – Michigan outgained Oregon State 405 yards to 138

    Oregon State

At some point there has to be a downfield passing game. The Oregon State offense was able to move the ball early on, and then it was all Michigan defense the rest of the way as the Beaver spread attack went nowhere. The Wolverines didn’t worry a lick about the pass, OSU couldn’t do it, and the offense died.

    – Seth Collins completed 9-of-16 for 79 yards and a score, and ran 11 times for 28 yards

    – Chris Brown led the Beavers with 33 yards on seven carries

    – Oregon State was 1-of-11 on third downs, 0-for-2 on fourths
