NBA Best Bets: Wednesday, March 23

It turns out that — surprisingly — being in Las Vegas was actually good luck for us. We’re coming off a +2.36-unit week, and I was only a little hungover on the flight back. A success!

If I struggle this week, then I’d have an excuse to go back to Vegas because that’s where I get my winning picks (it’s possible that I might have a problem, not sure yet).

Anyways, here are this week’s selections!

    Half-Court Shot: 0.5-Unit Plays

    Record: 59-50-2 (+4.33 Units)

    Layups

Grizzlies 1Q Team Total Over 30.5 (-110): Death, taxes and the Grizzlies going over 30 points in the first quarter. Memphis has scored 30+ points in EVERY first quarter except for three since Jan. 26. It’s kinda insane. This team starts out hot, and we’re just going to keep riding the wave. The total in this game is a high 238.5, and the Grizzlies should contribute a bunch in the first quarter.

    Two-Pointers

Timberwolves 1H ML (+100): The last few games have been kind to the T-Wolves’ first-half bettors as they’ve averaged a +9 margin in the first half of their last three games. This is a team that’s on the up and up, having won eight of their last 10 games, and when they’re at home they’re 21-14-1 ATS in the first half. Minnesota also holds the fifth-best three-point percentage in the league since the All-Star break, which helps them gain leads early on.

Celtics -4.5 vs. Jazz (-105): It would simply be wrong to fade one of the best teams in the NBA right now. Boston has won nine of its last 10 and is playing some of the league’s best defense at the moment. They’re also 7-3 ATS in their last 10 and have beaten formidable teams like the Nuggets, Nets and Grizzlies. The Jazz are an up-and-down team coming off a loss to Brooklyn, so this should be a decent spot for the C’s to win by a solid margin at home.

    Three-Pointers

Spencer Dinwiddie Over 20.5 Points (-110): The Mavs are going to be looking for offense without Luka, and this is where it’s Spencer Dinwiddie’s time to shine. He scored 36 against the Kings and plays enough minutes to get the number of shots needed to hit this bet. Plus, the Rockets have one of the NBA’s worst defenses.

    Half-Court Shot

Warriors 1H ML (+250): This is more of a hunch than anything else, so that’s why it’s only a half-unit play. The Warriors were embarrassed against the Magic last night and Draymond Green basically said they need to get their crap together. I expect (read: hope) that they come out with a fire lit under them to start this one.
