Former UCLA Coach Steve Alford, who was fired by the Bruins on New Year’s Eve, was hired by Nevada, where he’ll replace Eric Musselman, who left for Arkansas.
Stadium obtained Alford’s contract with Nevada via public records request.
He signed a 10-year contract on April 11, 2019 with the university worth $11.6 million that runs through April 30, 2029.
Alford’s base salary will be $300,000 annually. He’ll also earn a Media and Public Appearances fee every year, which is outlined below.
Alford will earn an annual Name, Image and Likeness Fee that is outlined below.
Alford’s total annual salary is listed below.
Alford will have the ability to receive two retention bonuses if he remains at Nevada, which are outlined below.
Alford will have the opportunity to earn performance-based incentives that are outlined below.
He’ll also receive a $25,000 relocation/moving allowance within 30 days of being hired.
If Alford is fired by Nevada, he’ll receive the remaining base salary, media and public appearances fee, name, image and likeness fee, and retention bonuses for the remaining period of the contract. If he’s fired, he must make “reasonable and diligent efforts to obtain basketball-related employment” in order to mitigate the amount of money Nevada would owe him.
The amount Nevada would owe Alford would be offset by the amount he would earn at his next job.
If Nevada receives NCAA sanctions within three years of firing Alford, he could be required to reimburse the university of the liquidated damages paid to him.
Alford’s buyout is outlined below in the case that he chooses to leave Nevada.
The first contract year ends on June 30, 2020 and each subsequent contract year begins on July 1, ending on June 30 of the subsequent year.
