Hard to go against New Mexico here – after all, the Lobos are playing at home. Beyond that, they have the nation’s No. 1-ranked rushing offense to lean on, as well as a D stout enough to put the clamps on UTSA. This will be one of those games that gives credence to the folks who complain about a bloated Bowl Season.

Frank Wilson has done a great job this year with the Roadrunners, but this one is going to turn out to be a win for the Lobos. I don’t love what New Mexico has going on at quarterback because I’m not a fan of two-quarterback systems. But Austin Apodaca and Lamar Jordan will play well enough to not give the game away. Tyrone Owens will play and will team up with Teriyon Gipson for one last big rushing performance this year. New Mexico wins by 10.

The Lobos put a shiny red bow on their regular season in a win over Wyoming, as Bob Davie’s squad rushed for 568 yards, which was the most the Cowboys allowed in program history. New Mexico entered that game leading the country in rushing at 342 yards per contest, and it far surpassed the total in the first half against Craig Bohl and Co. (428). The Lobos asserted their will and had complete control, showing off their brand of old-school football. UTSA will have no chance in this one if UNM is allowed to run the ball at will. The Roadrunners must get the Lobos into uncomfortable third-down situations, which would force them to throw the ball. And that is not the offense’s strength. Davie’s squad won’t have quite the rushing day that it had against Wyoming, and the Roadrunners will stick around for a bit. But the New Mexico rushing attack will eventually wear down the UTSA front, allowing Davie and Co. to get a win on their home field.

Wait just a second. New Mexico earns a bowl berth, and they have to stay at home and not to get to travel to another location? What is the fun in that? At least San Antonio gets to go somewhere, this certain place being Albuquerque, which I have a theory was the original capital of New Mexico, but no one could ever spell it correct, so they moved the capital to Santa Fe.
