ACC Football Rankings – Week 7

ACC football rankings heading into Week 7 of the 2016 season. The rankings shift below Clemson and Louisville after FSU’s huge road victory over Miami.

Brad Kaaya’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Stacy Coley with 1:38 remaining left Miami an extra point away from tying Florida State. The home crowd was going crazy. Then it all changed.

DeMarcus Walker blocked the extra point, the Seminoles ran out the rest of the clock, and Florida State bounced back after last week’s stunning loss to North Carolina.

Those same Tar Heels were crushed by Virginia Tech, causing a bit of a shift in the rankings. Here’s a look at the rest of the ACC after Clemson won Thursday and Louisville enjoyed a bye week.

Week 7 ACC Football Rankings

14. Duke

Beat Army, 13-6, on Saturday. The Blue Devils picked up a much-needed win after dropping three of their previous four games. They play at Louisville on Friday night.

13. Virginia

The Cavaliers had the week off following back-to-back victories over Central Michigan and Duke. They’ll host Pittsburgh on Saturday.

12. Syracuse

Lost to Wake Forest, 28-9. The Orange have dropped four of their last five games and face red-hot Virginia Tech next week.

11. Boston College

The Eagles were dominated by Clemson, 56-10, on Friday night. All three of their losses have come in ACC play, and they’ll have a week off before facing Syracuse.

10. Georgia Tech

Lost to Pittsburgh, 37-34, on a field goal as time expired. The Yellow Jackets fell to Clemson and Miami in the two previous weeks and are off to a 1-3 start in the ACC. They’ll play a non-conference game against Georgia Southern on Saturday.

9. Wake Forest

Improved to 5-1 with a 28-9 win over Syracuse. The Demon Deacons will find out where they stand in the ACC when they visit Florida State next week.

8. North Carolina State

Beat Notre Dame, 10-3, in a game played basically in the mud because of a torrential rain caused by Hurricane Matthew. The Wolfpack will have to worry about far more than weather when they travel to Clemson on Saturday.

7. Pittsburgh

Pitt’s field goal as time expired gave it a 37-34 win over Georgia Tech. The Panthers moved to 4-2 on the season and will play at Virginia next week.

6. North Carolina

Couldn’t build on last week’s win at Florida State and got crushed by Virginia Tech at home, 34-3. Mitch Trubisky had a horrible game, completing 39.4 percent of his passes while tossing two picks.

5. Virginia Tech

Big win for the Hokies to improve to 4-1 in coach Justin Fuente’s first year. They’ll face Syracuse next week before a Thursday night showdown with Miami.

4. Miami

Lost to Florida State, 20-19, in a thriller for its first loss of the season. The Hurricanes’ tying extra point was blocked in the final two minutes as another game in this long rivalry was decided on a kick.

3. FSU

Big win over Miami after the shocking loss to North Carolina last week. The Seminoles continue their up-and-down season next week when they host Wake Forest.

2. Louisville

Got a much needed break after that battle with Clemson last week. Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals host Duke on Thursday night.

1. Clemson

Destroyed Boston College 56-10 on Thursday night. The Tigers didn’t have any letdown after the big win over Louisville as DeShaun Watson threw four touchdown passes.
