Akron vs. Western Michigan Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

Akron vs. Western Michigan prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen in the game between the Zips and Broncos.

Jeff Bartl

Tom Herman gets all the attention when it comes to a coach ready to make the jump to a big-time job. The fact of the matter is that P.J. Fleck actually might be better. He’s rowed the Western Michigan boat into its first AP Top 25 ranking, has led it to wins over two Big Ten schools and is about to be 7-0 this season after beating Akron. What Fleck has done with the Broncos’ program is amazing considering he was suffering through a 1-11 season in his first year in 2013. Receiver Corey Davis is a legit first-round NFL talent, so keep your eyes on him.

Jonathan Bass

I’m all in on Western Michigan. Crazy to think they’ve been playing football since 1906 and this is the program’s first ever top-25 ranking. The university might as well commission a mural of Washington crossing the Delaware, only with P.J. Fleck in place of GW. Western Michigan has never won double-digit games in a year, a streak that ends this season and will include a victory over the Zips.

Robert Judin

Kudos, Coach Fleck. Your six straight wins to start the season are about to become seven consecutive victories. Zach Terrell has some kind of injury to his mouth — not asking about that one — but he’ll be a go for this one. Terrell will take care of the ball like he has all season long, and he’ll get the Broncos out to an early lead by flinging the ball around in the first half. He’ll get some help from Jarvion Franklin in the rushing attack, too.

Dave Miller

The Boat continues to get Rowed. The Broncos will face a Zips squad that has won nine of their last 11 games and six straight in conference, so it won’t be an easy time in Akron. But expect WMU wide receiver Corey Davis, who broke the school record for touchdowns, to have a big game. He has 36 receptions for 589 yards and is second in the FBS with eight touchdowns, and he’s the best player that most of the country has not yet discovered. WMU, which is the only team in the country to not have a turnover this year, gets a road win behind the efficient arm of Zach Terrell, who is completing 71 percent of his throws.

Brian Stultz

I’m the same age as P.J. Fleck, and it amazes me that someone our age could be so successful running a college football program. I don’t feel old enough to have that happen. Akron might have the worst stadium in America, but they will get some fans there this weekend hoping to pull the upset against big, bad Western Michigan. Not going to happen. The Broncos keep rowing to an undefeated season that everyone will forget happened in five years.
