Five-Star OL Alex Leatherwood Announces Next Visit, Says Commitment Is Weaker Than Before

Top recruit Alex Leatherwood announces his next visit, and also says that his commitment is weaker than before.

The sweepstakes are still open for five-star offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood, despite the fact that he’s currently committed to Alabama. Leatherwood, from Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida, committed to the Crimson Tide in early June of this year, but is still weighing his options and seeing what others have to offer. He’s even backed off the firmness of his commitment.

“The strength of my commitment [to Alabama] is a little less than what it was,” Leatherwood told Chad Simmons of Scout.com.

Leatherwood recently visited the University of Michigan for the Wolverines’ game against the Wisconsin Badgers and walked away thoroughly impressed. He gushed over his visit with Harbaugh and the Wolverines, saying, “My Michigan visit was, by far, the best visit I’ve ever been on — best fans and an amazing city. I’ll definitely be back.”

While Michigan made an impression, it’s not the only school in the running.

Leatherwood was supposed to visit Florida for the Gators’ matchup with LSU last week, however the game was canceled due to Hurricane Matthew.

Next up on his list is a stop in Athens to see the Georgia Bulldogs play the Vanderbilt Commodores on Oct. 15. Leatherwood tweeted on Monday his plans to visit UGA for its homecoming game against Vanderbilt this weekend.

He is also scheduled to visit Alabama on Nov. 26 when the Crimson Tide host Auburn for the Iron Bowl.

Leatherwood is ranked as the nation’s No. 3 offensive tackle and No. 18 overall player for the 2017 recruiting class.
