4-Star CB Ambry Thomas Commits To Michigan Wolverines

Four-star cornerback Ambry Thomas committed to Michigan Wednesday night, giving the Wolverines 21 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

In November, Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines pulled in a huge commitment from 4-star safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell.

Almost a month later, they have now landed Kelly-Powell’s cousin. Four-star prospect Ambry Thomas committed to Michigan on Wednesday night, giving the Wolverines 21 total commits in their 2017 recruiting class. Michigan now sits at No. 6 in the class rankings behind the top five teams of Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M, respectively.

The Detroit native announced his pledge in a commitment video that highlighted his abilities in all three phases of the game.

Thomas, the No. 5 cornerback and No. 58 overall player in the country, chose Michigan over Florida, Pitt, Penn State and Michigan State. He held the Wolverines in high regard when he spoke to Campus Insiders in June at Michigan’s Bright Lights Big House camp, and now he’s a part of their class.

At 5-foot-11.5, 170 lbs Thomas flashes great closing speed and above average ball skills. He’s a tremendous athlete with an ability to find lanes and make plays in the return game. When dropping back in coverage, Thomas has a nose for both the ball and the end zone, making him a formidable pick-six threat.

Michigan now has four defensive backs committed. Kelly-Powell and Thomas join 4-star safety J’Marick Woods and 3-star cornerback Benjamin St. Juste.

The Wolverines currently have eight cornerbacks listed on their roster, five of whom are upperclassmen. Harbaugh’s staff also signed 4-star cornerbacks LaVert Hill and David Long as part of the 2016 recruiting class.
