5 Storylines, Predictions For Arkansas In Belk Bowl

Arkansas is set to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Belk Bowl, so here are some storylines and predictions for the Razorbacks ahead of the game.

It was a disappointing season for head coach Bret Bielema and the Arkansas Razorbacks, as inconsistency on both offense and defense resulted in a 7-5 season after a 3-0 start. The Hogs will try and salvage some pride and momentum as they battle Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl.

Here are five thoughts and predictions as the Razorbacks take on the Hokies on December 29.

Keeping Allen Upright

One of the main themes of the Arkansas season was the offensive line being unable to keep quarterback Austin Allen from getting hit. While Allen wasn’t sacked that much, the beatings he took were difficult to watch.

Rawleigh In Charlotte

The way to get that pressure off of Allen? Get running back Rawleigh Williams going on the ground. The sophomore ran for 1,326 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, and went over the 100-yard mark seven times, with the Razorbacks winning six of those contests.

Stopping The Run

Arkansas has been bad at keeping the other team from getting the ground game rolling, giving up 209.33 yards per game. The bad news? The Hokies average 184.92 on the ground.

Shutting Down Evans

Because of the play of Louisville’s Lamar Jackson and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson, Virginia Tech quarterback Jerod Evans was highly overlooked during the regular season. The Razorbacks will need to pressure him often and early.

Bielema’s Wardrobe

Come on, Coach. We all want you to show up in a nice suit purchased from the local Belk instead of your normal attire of the red jacket. Let’s make this happen. A top hat would be awesome as well.
