Best College Football Uniforms – Week 11

The best college football uniforms for Week 11 of the season, as Campus Insiders turns into #FashionInsiders. This week we’ll see multiple military tributes in honor of Veterans Day.

Friendly reminder to everyone that Thanksgiving is just two weeks from today, which for some of you means that it’s time to see the whole family and engage in debates about anything and everything – from politics to whether or not a flannel shirt is acceptable attire at church on Christmas/Christmas Eve. My family tends to discuss the latter more often than not before things switch over to sports and we start popping bottles of craft beer.

In the world of college football we’re nearing the end of the regular season already, and it’s shaping up to be a damn good finish. It’s looking more and more like the Iron Bowl and The Game could be pivotal in determining what the CFP looks like. Thank God for rivalries, right?

And as for this week’s fashion news, we’ve got multiple new looks on tap, a lot of which pay tribute to our nation’s veterans. Therefore, we’re sticking with last week’s hodgepodge format for our rankings. Enjoy.

Best Uniforms For Week 11

NOTE: A thread count grading system is used to evaluate all uniforms. It was developed with proprietary technology in the Campus Insiders fashion lab, and ranges from 1-1,000.

Marshall

If you haven’t learned about the history of the Marshall football program, I would highly suggest taking the rest of the day off to do some research. The Thundering Herd will be honoring their 1970 and 1971 teams this weekend with a throwback logo on the sides of their helmets, along with a large “75” on the back in honor of the 75 team members, coaches, and crew aboard that fateful flight on the night of November 14th, 1970. A very cool tribute.

Washington

The Huskies will be paying tribute to Veteran’s Day by adding an American flag color scheme into their helmet logos. In addition, they will be wearing matte black helmets on top of their black jerseys. I really like that they decided to wear the black helmets, as the red, white and blue pattern would have looked a bit odd on their gold lids.

Maryland

Maryland is breaking out their new “Red Ops” uniform this Saturday, and, well, I sure hope you like the color red. From head to toe, the Terps will be wearing a shade that almost makes you squint ; they’re that bright. My favorite aspect is the helmets, which have a cool design covering them along with “Maryland” spelled out across the back. Given that the school has named these their “Red Ops” uniform, I’d suggest they don’t try and actually conduct any secret “ops” while wearing these. They’d get spotted a mile away from their objective.

Holy Cross

Okay, these are awesome. First of all, I’m a huge fan of purple and black uniform colors. Secondly, with Holy Cross playing at Yankee Stadium this weekend, the addition of the Yankee Stadium facade at the top of their logo is a phenomenal feature. Not only does it fit in with the Holy Cross logo, but it’s a perfect tribute to the stadium itself. In addition, the updated logo looks perfect on the matte black helmet. Very well done.

Notre Dame

Before we progress any further, I just need to address the fact that I cannot stand having to spell out “Notre,” just like I hate spelling center the Canadian way (“centre”). You see, I’m a pretty simple guy (PSA to all the ladies out there) and tend to lack in creativity from time to time, so hurling a curveball like “Notre” really irks me and throws my whole day off its axis.

That being said, the Irish are breaking out this year’s Shamrock Series uniforms on Saturday. While the jerseys aren’t anything great, the helmets are next level. I’m not sure that I have ever seen more detail put into a football helmet, and that’s saying something as I’ve been around this helmet block a time or two. If only the jerseys could have been better, Notre Dame would have landed themselves a higher thread count.

UCF

Central Florida just knocked it out of the park with these helmets. They’re not as detailed as the aforementioned Notre Dame lids, but they’re just as good, if not better. Each UCF player was given the choice of which of the five branches of the military they wanted to represent on their individual helmet. Therefore, one player might have the Marines logo on his helmet, while the guy standing next to him might have the Army on his. Each lid then has the UCF logo (in American flag colors) on the left side. The Navy football team used a similar concept last season on their helmets, and it’s definitely something I’d like to see continue in the coming years.

Air Force

We saw these beauties earlier in the season, but that was before I started this weekly piece. That does NOT, however, mean that they’re receiving a lower thread count. I still maintain my opinion that these are one of this season’s best alternate uniforms, with the helmet being the best in college football this year. I am begging Air Force to send me one of those lids. Heck, I’ll even fly out their and pick it up myself if I have to. Who wouldn’t want one?
