Big 12 Football Rankings – Week 12


Big 12 football rankings heading into Week 12 of the 2016 season. Both the Sooners and Mountaineers picked up victories over tough conference opponents.


There were two very big matchups slated up for the Big 12 during a week where TCU and Kansas State were on bye weeks.

West Virginia and Texas went head-to-head, but the Mountaineers came out on top, 24-20. And then Oklahoma topped Baylor thanks to some big-time offensive production, 45-24.

Now that the games have been played, here’s a look at how the Big 12 teams rank heading into Week 12 of the season.

10. Kansas (Last Week – 10)

The two worst teams in the Big 12 went toe-to-toe, but the Jayhawks could not find a way to beat the Cyclones. Kansas is still winless in conference play.

9. Iowa State (9)

The Cyclones played for pride against Kansas and ended up winning, 31-24. Iowa State earned its first Big 12 win of the season.

8. Texas Tech (8)

Patrick Mahomes II was his usual self with 34-of-51 passes completed for 344 yards and three touchdowns, but the Red Raiders fell just short to Oklahoma State, 45-44.

7. Texas (7)

The Longhorns could not come back to beat West Virginia, but the future still looks bright for Texas’ freshman quarterback. Shane Buechele threw for 318 yards, one touchdown and an interception.

6. Kansas State (5)

The Wildcats had the benefit of a bye week this week, and now Kansas State will visit Baylor next Saturday.

5. TCU (6)

The Horned Frogs were also on a bye week but will look forward to hosting Oklahoma State next weekend.

4. Baylor (2)

Seth Russell threw for 148 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions before going down with an injury. The Bears couldn’t slow down Baker Mayfield in the loss to Oklahoma.

3. West Virginia (4)

Skyler Howard had a poor game through the air, but he still led the Mountaineers to a 24-20 victory over the Longhorns despite a late comeback attempt by Charlie Strong’s team.

2. Oklahoma State (3)

Mason Rudolph really let it fly with 395 passing yards and two touchdowns on 20-of-28 passing. The Cowboys blew the game wide open with 21 points in the first quarter and held on for the win.

1. Oklahoma (1)

The Sooners are still the top contender in the Big 12. Oklahoma beat up on Baylor, 45-24, thanks to Baker Mayfield and Joe Mixon.
