Big 12 Football Rankings – Week 7

Big 12 football rankings heading into Week 7 of the 2016 season. Oklahoma deals Texas a third straight loss and shows it might be the only real threat to unseat Baylor atop the rankings.

The Big 12 might’ve been helped by Houston’s loss to Navy on Saturday as it tries to prove it is worthy of a bid to the College Football Playoff. Baylor had the week off – its first of two byes over the next three weeks – and seems to be the only realistic contender left.

Two-loss Oklahoma is trying its best to make its case and beat Texas, 45-40, in the Red River rivalry game in Dallas this week. It’ll be a tough sell, though, even if the Sooners end up beating Baylor later this season.

Here’s a look at the rest of the rankings heading into Week 7.

Week 7 Big 12 Football Rankings

10. Kansas

Lost a 24-23 heartbreaker to TCU. The Jayhawks led late into the fourth quarter before allowing a field goal with less than two minutes left that thwarted their upset bid.

9. Iowa State

Blew a big lead and lost 38-31 at Oklahoma State. The Cyclones were ahead by 17 before the Cowboys scored the game’s final 28 points.

8. Texas Tech

Lost 44-38 to Kansas State. The Red Raiders scored fewer than 50 points for the first time this season while dropping to 3-2. They’ll face West Virginia next week.

7. Texas

Coach Charlie Strong’s seat just got even hotter – if that’s even possible. The Longhorns lost to Oklahoma, 45-40, in Dallas and have dropped three straight following a 2-0 start.

6. Kansas State

Defended Texas Tech better than any other team so far this season in Saturday’s 44-38 win. The Wildcats have won three of their last four but will have to travel to Oklahoma next week.

5. West Virginia

The 4-0 Mountaineers had a bye week after slipping past Kansas State, 17-16, last week. They’ll hit the road to face Texas Tech next week.

4. Oklahoma State

The Cowboys looked like they were headed to a disappointing home defeat before rallying to beat Iowa State, 38-31. Mason Rudolph threw four touchdown passes.

3. TCU

The Horned Frogs barely escaped Kansas with a 24-23 win after the Jayhawks missed a long field-goal attempt as time expired. They’ll get a week off to prepare for unbeaten West Virginia.

2. Oklahoma

Won the highest-scoring Red River rivalry game, 45-40, over Texas. Dede Westbrook had a huge game with 10 catches for 232 yards and three touchdowns. Kansas State awaits next week.

1. Baylor

The 5-0 Bears had the week off. They’ll face Kansas next week before getting another week off to prepare for their matchup with Texas.
