Big 12 Roundup – Week 9

Oct. 25 at TCU 82, Texas Tech 27
And You Care Because … TCU did whatever it wanted offensively rolling up 785 yards with Trevone Boykin cranking up seven touchdown passes. Even after two scoring passes to Josh Doctson in the first quarter from 51 and five yards out for a 24-10 lead, Texas Tech hung around with Davis Webb finding Devin Lauderdale for a 56-yard score and Ryan Bustin hitting a 38-yard field goal to keep it close, and then TCU went off. It could’ve been far, far worse – TCU settled for field goals with Jaden Oberkrom hitting from 43, 47 and 27 yards out to help the Horned Frogs pull away as part of a 30 point scoring run. Boykin threw his seventh touchdown pass of the game late in the third, but the backups kept rolling in the fourth with Trevorris Johnson scoring from four and 25 yards out.
What Else? TCU QB Trevone Boykin completed 22-of-39 passes for 433 yards and seven touchdowns, and ran seven times for 38 yards
– Texas Tech QB Davis Webb completed 15-of-30 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns with a pick

Oct. 25 at Kansas State 23, Texas 0-
And You Care Because … Kansas State pitched its first Big 12 shutout since 2003 with a terrific defensive effort against the run and a decent day from the offense. The kicking game worked, with Matthew McCrane hitting field goals from 19 and 30 yards out in the first and from 38 yards away in the third, and DeMarcus Robinson and Charles Jones each added short scoring runs. Texas came up with just 196 yards of total offense, and while the defense played well the offense couldn’t get going.
What Else? Time of possession: Kansas State 39:14 – Texas 20:46
– Kansas State QB Jake Waters completed 19-of-30 passes for 224 yards playing through an injured shoulder
– Texas QB Tyrone Swoopes completed 13-of-25 passes for 106 yards, and ran eight times for a team-leading 31 yards
– Kansas State WR Tyler Lockett caught eight passes for 103 yards and returned two punts for 22 yards

Oct. 25 West Virginia 34, at Oklahoma State 10
And You Care Because … Clint Trickett’s string of 300-yard games came to an end, but the West Virginia quarterback was nearly perfect while throwing two first quarter touchdown passes hitting Kevin White for a 19-yarder and Mario Alford for a 79-yard play. Oklahoma State came back in the second with ten points, including an eight-yard Teddy Johnson touchdown catch, but that would be it for the Cowboy fun as the Mountaineers scored 20 unanswered points. Josh Lambert hit field goals from 39 and 43 yards out, Dreamius Smith ran for a 40-yard score, and the defense did its part in shutting down the OSU offense and getting a 52-yard pick six from Dravon Henry.
What Else? West Virginia QB Clint Trickett completed 21-of-30 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns
– Oklahoma State QB Daxx Garman completed 21-of-41 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown with two picks
– West Virginia RB Wendell Smallwood ran 23 times for 132 yards, and caught a pass for 14 yards
– Oklahoma State converted just 2-of-15 third down tries and one of five fourth down chances
