Birmingham Bowl Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

Birmingham Bowl prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen between USF and South Carolina.

Willie Taggart is gone, but Quinton Flowers is still guiding USF. He might be one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the country, and he’ll be the difference here against an average South Carolina team. The Bulls will win this one easily.

Robert Judin

I think Jake Bentley has a very bright future as a quarterback, but he isn’t going to be able to lead the Gamecocks to a victory here. Quinton Flowers has put together a great season both in the air and on the ground, and that’s exactly how he’ll lead the Bulls to a win against South Carolina. Flowers will put up points with his arm and with his legs, and USF will win by at least 14 points.

Dave Miller

This has been a really nice first season for Will Muschamp in Columbia. Not a lot of college football pundits expected the Gamecocks to be in the postseason in Year 1 of the Muschamp Era (if ever), and a lot of that success has to do with a strong defense led by linebacker T.J. Holloman and the play of true freshman quarterback Jake Bentley.

But the Gamecocks have allowed over 200 rushing yards per game, and they will be going up against dual-threat quarterback Quinton Flowers, who rushed for 1,425 yards, and running back Marlon Mack, who added 1,137 on the ground. The pair combined for 30 rushing scores. Losing head coach Willie Taggart to Oregon obviously hurt a lot of players, but co-offensive coordinator/interim HC T.J. Weist will have this team focused.

The Gamecocks’ defense will give Flowers and Co. trouble, but they won’t have enough offense to match the dynamic Flowers as USF scores a win over an SEC foe.

Brian Stultz

I’m a huge fan of Quinton Flowers, and was sad to see head coach Willie Taggart leave for Oregon when he could have had Flowers at quarterback for one more year in Tampa. Flowers is resilient, though, and will show why he should be mentioned in the Heisman Trophy race with a big performance over an underrated South Carolina defense. Don’t mess him up, Charlie Strong! Bulls win.
