5-Star Forward Brian Bowen Takes Unofficial Visit To DePaul

Five-star wing Brian Bowen visited DePaul on Friday. The Blue Demons need a recruiting jolt to get the program further headed in the right direction.

DePaul men’s basketball has been underwhelming for far too long.

But the Blue Demons are hoping the future is bright with the arrival of their new stadium for the 2017-18 college basketball season.

Having Brian Bowen in a DePaul uniform playing for head coach Dave Leitao would make things even brighter.

The uncommitted five-star small forward took an unofficial visit to DePaul on Friday, further underscoring that the Blue Demons have been quietly pursuing him under the radar.

The 6-foot-7, 175-pounder from La Lumiere School (La Porte, IN) is one of the best small forwards in the entire country and is rated as Scout’s No. 19 player overall.

The Class of 2017 product has a ton of potential. He has very good size and length for a wing, with strength being an issue currently but shouldn’t be once he’s in a college weight program. He can score by driving from wing, hitting jumpers and even a bit from the block. Long-range accuracy is a part of his arsenal that needs work, but his mid-range game is strong and his size allows him to take smaller defenders into the post and score with an array of moves.

Schools such as Arizona, Michigan State, Creighton and Texas have been in on his recruitment.

But DePaul would offer Bowen the chance to play in a brand new gym in a Big East that is one of the better leagues in the nation. He’d also be able to enjoy all of the luxuries that the city of Chicago has to offer. And he’d be able to do it for a program that desperately needs to create a buzz after being so downtrodden for so long.
