Cam Akers Releases Updated Top 10 Schools List

Ten schools are in the running for five-star Clinton, Mississippi running back Cam Akers.

Former Alabama commit Cam Akers released an updated top 10 list on Wednesday. Akers decided to reopen his recruitment in early March after committing to the Crimson Tide in August 2015. Despite backing off his pledge, Alabama is still in the hunt.

“As of now these are the teams that I will be taking a closer look at over the next few months #Top10,” Akers tweeted.

Currently making the cut, in alphabetical order, are Alabama, Auburn, Cal, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

When it comes what program has the best shot at landing the elite running back, a lot will rest on the relationship coaches form with Akers’ parents.

“The coaches and all the different schools have to recruit my parents,” Akers told Scout’s Chad Simmons. “That is a big part of it for me. They are talking to coaches, they are asking business questions when we are on the visits, and when my time comes to make my final decision, they are going to play a big part of it.

Akers is coming off a trip to LSU, and has visits planned for Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State and Tennessee in the coming weeks.

The Clinton, Mississippi prospect is ranked as the nation’s No. 22 overall player and No. 2 running back. He’s listed at 5-foot-11 and 212 pounds, and has a verified 40-yard dash time of 4.44.
