Projecting Where 4-Star OT Chuck Filiaga Will Commit

Four-star offensive tackle Chuck Filiaga will commit to the school of his choice on January 7 at the Army All-American Bowl. The Campus Insiders staff gave its predictions on where the nation’s No. 15 offensive tackle will end up.

This recruitment is all maize and blue. There is a growing sense that 4-star offensive tackle Kai-Leon Herbert is going to flip his commitment to either Florida or Miami, and that would open up a spot in Michigan’s class for Chuck Filiaga. With Tim Drevno recently getting a five-year contract extension, you can write Filiaga’s name in pen on the Wolverines’ roster next season.

Michigan hasn’t had much luck with offensive line recruits, which is why Filiaga is a main priority for Jim Harbaugh and his staff. They’re going hard after him, and it’s going to be tough for Filiaga to say no. Mike Riley is making a valiant effort for Nebraska, but I see Filiaga heading up to Ann Arbor.

Hard to see anyone other than Michigan taking this one. Filiaga’s primary recruiter was Tim Drevno, and with the Wolverines inking Drevno to a $1 million per year, five-year extension it should cement the commitment. With Dylan McCaffrey and, maybe, Najee Harris joining Michigan’s class, the pieces are in place for a tackle like Filiaga to showcase his protection skills for the program’s next wave of elite talent.

Filiaga is down to Oklahoma, Nebraska and Michigan, and he has had home visits with all three schools. Because the Wolverines lost out on OT Isaiah Wilson, who decided to head to Georgia, I think Filiaga has become a top priority right now for Jim Harbaugh and his staff. He can possibly slide in and compete for a starting job right away, and it’s tough to say “No” to a staff that has been pushing all of the right buttons on the recruiting trail since coming to Ann Arbor.
