Cincinnati vs. Temple Game Preview

When: Saturday, October 29 – 3:30 p.m. ET
Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA
TV Broadcast: CBSSN

Gunner Kiel playing quarterback and leading the Bearcats to a win? Is it 2004 again? Okay, so Kiel hasn’t been in college that long, but it does feel like it. Kiel threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns in the 31-19 win over ECU as Cincinnati improved to 4-3.

Temple got a huge win over USF, as running back Ryquell Armstead ran for 210 yards, a career high, and two touchdowns in the 46-30 victory. The defense was excellent, holding Bulls quarterback Quinton Flowers to 277 yards of total offense.

What To Know About Cincinnati

With Kiel back in the lineup, the Cincinnati offense seems to be dangerous again. The Bearcats had struggled moving the ball, but broke out in the game against the Pirates. Temple’s defense will prove to be a tough test, though, as they are No. 17 in the nation in yards allowed per game at 321. The Bearcats will have to get a good showing from its running game so the Owls won’t be able to fully focus on Kiel.

What to Know About Temple

Riding the legs of Armstead would be a nice start for the Owls, as he has rushed for nine touchdowns on the year. Jahad Thomas is another nice weapon to have at running back, as he has nine touchdown as well. With those two, quarterback Phillip Walker can pick his spots to throw the ball (14-for-21 for 209 yards and a touchdown against USF) and manage the game. The Cincinnati defense has been generous giving up yards (430.9 per game) this season, but only allows 24.9 points per game.

Offense: Tie. The Bearcats are rejuvenated with Kiel back under center.

Defense: Temple. They did a heck of a job against Flowers, one of the best players in the AAC.

Special Teams: Temple. Since taking over the kicking job, Aaron Boumerhi has been a perfect 5-for-5 on field goal attempts.

Coaching: Cincinnati. Every now and then, Tommy Tuberville still flashes that magic.

Intangibles: Temple. With the win over USF, the Owls have a chance to win the AAC East.

Cincinnati vs. Temple Prediction

Ever since Steve Addazio was roaming the sidelines for Temple, the Owls have been built on having a tough defense. That is no different this season. Now, with an offense that is productive, the Owls have become hard to beat. Kiel will make a couple of mistakes, and Armstead will get more than 150 rushing yards as Temple pulls away for another win.
