College Football News Roundup – April 11

A college football news roundup that includes former USC quarterback Max Browne discussing his years with the Trojans and a coaching legend passing away.

I turn 36 years old today, which means I am on the downhill slide toward that over-the-hill birthday that is 40. I remember my parents 40th birthdays like it was yesterday, so the fact I am four years away from my own is a little disturbing. I thought they were so old back then. I don’t want to talk about it anymore.

In college football news, we took a look at things we learned during spring practices from Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, and Wake Forest, explain why Florida State’s eyes are now fully focused on Alabama, and suggest some names for possible bowl games if Ole Miss wants to name its regular season matchups. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

Strange Times In LA – The career for Max Browne at USC didn’t go as well as he was expecting. Now at Pittsburgh, he is speaking out on the strange times that was his years in Los Angeles.

“Crazy weird deal and it kept getting weirder and weirder, and in a weird way, you kind of got used to that as far as the turmoil goes,” Browne said.

This is understandable what occurred during his time: Lane Kiffin being fired at an airport, Steve Sarkisian being let go because of an alcohol problem, and interim head coach Clay Helton taking charge.

Legend Dies – Spike Dykes built a coaching legacy while being the head man for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, still being the winningest coach in school history. On Monday, he passed away a the age of 79.

Dykes went 82-67-1 as the head coach of the Red Raiders. His son, Sonny, has served as a head coach at both Louisiana Tech and California. He is now an offensive analyst at TCU.

No Tiger Rolls Available – Former Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron is known for a lot of things: leading the Crimson Tide to a national title, dating and marrying model Katherine Webb, and now, opening a sushi restaurant in Tuscaloosa.

The restaurant will be called Ajian Sushi and be a “build your own” sushi joint. I’m sure Auburn fans will be lining up to order the War Eagle Roll, even if it doesn’t exist.
