College Football News Roundup – April 7

A college football news roundup that includes Penn State’s two highest-ranked officials calling for a trustee to resign and a weird Washington State player arrest.

While watching a rerun of How I Met Your Mother yesterday, two of the characters were discussing the horrible movie Manos, Hands of Fate. First of all, if you haven’t seen the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode where they watch that movie, please do, because it is hilarious. After that, watch the movie by itself. It is so awful it is awesome. Well, sort of. Actually it is just terrible.

In college football news, we discuss whether or not Jim Nantz would make a great primetime voice for the SEC on CBS, Florida State defensive tackle Darvin Taylor is coming along in head coach Jimbo Fisher’s eyes, and taking a look at what we learned from spring practice for NC State, Arizona, Vanderbilt, and Colorado. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

From The Top – Ira Lubert and Mark Dambly, the two highest ranking officials at Penn State University, have asked a trustee to step down after he had made insensitive statements about victims in the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

“We strongly condemn them,” Lubert and Dambly said in a statement. “Members of this board must hold themselves to a higher standard and represent our university with respect for all.”

Al Lord, the trustee, recently stated that he was tired of all the money being paid to “so-called victims” of Sandusky.

Wait, What? – In the weird side of the news, a Washington State player was arrested and tazed while wrestling with police officers after trying to buy a light with fake money. Yes, you read that sentence correctly.

Cornerback Treshon Broughton tried to paid a cashier with a counterfeit $20 bill back in February when the incident occurred.

I’m sure this pleases Mike Leach to no end.

Orange Injured – Devin Butler was looking for a fresh start as a graduate transfer in Syracuse after leaving Notre Dame. Unfortunately, spring practice came to an end for the cornerback earlier than expected on Thursday.

Butler suffered an undisclosed injury and was carted off the field.
