College Football News Roundup – December 14

A college football news roundup that includes Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh with another quotable quote and some strange goings-on at Wake Forest.

My local bar here in Chicago also happens to be a pretty famous place that a lot of people in town on business trips tend to visit. During the week, I’m usually surrounded by five men discussing the latest market gossip or whatever mumbo jumbo they’re decompressing from, and I’m sick of it. I go to a bar to get away from the real world, not to listen to you gripe about how Tom in Client Acquisition is just not cutting it. Let me have my beer and play whatever iPhone game that I’m currently addicted to in peace. No more shop talk, okay? Thanks.

In college football news, Lane Kiffin showed a mature and humble side to him at his introductory press conference as the new FAU head coach, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will meet earlier during the 2017 season, and check out who made the Campus Insiders All-Freshman Team. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

Oh, Stewardess! I Speak Harbaugh – With rumors floating around that Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh could possibly be interested in the open Los Angeles Rams job, he responded in only a way that he could.

“A lot of this talk is coming from our enemies,” Harbaugh said. “They like to tell that to the recruits and to their families and try to manipulate them into going to some other school besides Michigan, but we know them as jive turkeys.”

Leslie Nielsen would be proud.

Wait, WHAT? – Well, some interesting news came out of Winston-Salem on Tuesday, as it was announced that, no, Louisville didn’t steal the playbook the way Wake Forest thought. It was actually the Demon Deacons’ radio announcer, Tommy Elrod, who had provided the Deacs’ game plan to Louisville himself.

In a program-wide investigation, the university found that Elrod, who is a former player and assistant coach for Wake Forest, had provided or attempted to provide the Deacs’ game plans to opponents since 2014.

Bitter, table for one.

Temple Has Its New Man – In somewhat of a surprising move, Florida defensive coordinator Geoff Collins is leaving Gainesville to become the new coach of the Temple Owls. Collins, whose defense is highly responsible for the Gators’ success the last two seasons. This will be his first head coaching job.

Bama Does It Again – The never-ending talent that passes through Tuscaloosa is ridiculous, and it just got better for next season as JUCO defensive end Isaiah Buggs has announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide. Biggs, who stands 6’5 and weights 290 pounds, chose the Tide over his home-state LSU Tigers.
