College Football News Roundup – February 14

A college football news roundup that includes Ohio State being ranked No. 1 in a preseason poll and Temple hiring a new SWAG coordinator.

I’m back! Did you miss me? Hopefully you noticed that I was gone for close to two weeks. I know this opening paragraph in the daily roundup gets your energy going each morning, so I take a lot of great pride and effort when writing it. So, yeah, I’m back from vacation, and ready to get the ball rolling along. Are you with me? Let’s go!

In college football news, Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder has been diagnosed with throat cancer, LSU quarterback Brandon Harris has decided to transfer, and Alabama offensive lineman Lester Cotton was arrested on a marijuana possession charge. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

Buckeyes Ranked No. 1 – There are still several months before the start of the season, but the Preseason Football Power Index has already published its rankings for the 2017 campaign, and the Ohio State Buckeyes come in on top. Following the Buckeyes are Alabama, Oklahoma, FSU, and Auburn, while reigning national champion Clemson comes in at seven.

SWAG – Well, now I have seen it all in college football. Temple has hired Dave Gerson as its SWAG coordinator.

Gerson’s job – seriously – will be to “develop and showcase an array of graphic designs for social media usage.”

Extension Delayed – Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre led the Buffaloes to one of its best seasons in recent memory in 2016, winning 10 games and the Pac-12 South, earning a contract extension worth $16.25 million. Now, the university’s Board of Regents have delayed the extension as they are looking into MacIntyre’s handling of allegations of a former coach accused of domestic abuse. The coach, Joe Tumpkin, resigned from his position in January.
