Notre Dame WR Corey Holmes To Transfer, Currently Eyeing Five Programs

Notre Dame wide receiver Corey Holmes is planning on transferring and is currently eyeing five programs.

Former highly-touted recruit Corey Holmes has decided to finish his college football career at another institution.

According to Tom Loy of Irish247, Holmes will transfer from Notre Dame upon graduation this summer. He joins quarterback Malik Zaire as the second Fighting Irish player having opted to transfer over the past week. Holmes will have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he lands.

“It’s just the best decision for me,” Holmes told Irish247. “I’m graduating this summer and I’m just going to find the best fit for me to finish things up.”

Holmes played sparingly during his freshman season, only seeing the field against Rice and Michigan.

He redshirted in 2015, and was expected to put a solid year together in 2016, however recorded just 11 receptions for 96 yards with zero touchdowns in six games.

Brian Kelly plucked Holmes out of Florida high school powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas. He was the nation’s No. 38 wide receiver and No. 200 overall player in the 2014 recruiting class, however his career never met expectations in South Bend.

As for where he’s considering, Loy reports that two ACC programs – Miami and North Carolina – and three Pac-12 teams – Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA – are potential destinations.
