LSU WR Coach Dameyune Craig A Candidate For Oregon OC Job

The Oregon Ducks are reportedly pursuing LSU wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig for their offensive coordinator job.

Since he took the job in Eugene, Willie Taggart has been busy trying to put the finishing touches on Oregon’s 2017 recruiting class.

With a month remaining in this cycle, it may be a little too late to make any huge leaps forward in the class rankings. But Taggart could certainly set the table for future hauls if he hires one of the nation’s best recruiters.

The Ducks are still searching for a new offensive coordinator, and LSU wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig is being considered for the job, according to Nola.com.

Craig is coming off of his first season in Baton Rouge but was hired by Les Miles, who has since been fired and replaced by Ed Orgeron. One day before accepting the job on Miles’ staff, Craig was offered the offensive coordinator job by Taggart at South Florida. So, there certainly is history between Craig and Taggart.

Prior to his arrival at LSU, Craig served as the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for Auburn from 2013 to 2015. That followed a stint with Florida State as the Seminoles’ quarterbacks coach from 2010 to 2012.

While the Bayou Bengals finished as the No. 101 passing offense at 190.1 yards per game this past season, Craig’s resume as a recruiter speaks for itself. He helped land eventual Heisman Trophy-winning QB Jameis Winston at FSU. He also recruited Kamryn Pettway to Auburn and helped the Tigers land Nate Craig-Myers, Jayvaughn Myers and Eli Stove in the 2016 class.

At Oregon, he would arguably have the easiest time recruiting as he’s had at any stop in his career, as he’d be away from the rigors of SEC recruiting wars, and he’d also be aided by the energy and enthusiasm that Taggart has brought to Eugene.

If the Ducks were to hire Craig, a buyout from his contract with LSU would exceed $600,000.
