OL Dave Dawson Transferring From Michigan Wolverines

Former 4-star offensive lineman Dave Dawson will transfer from the Michigan Wolverines as a fifth-year graduate player.

Offensive guard Dave Dawson has announced his decision to leave the University of Michigan as a graduate transfer and seek a fifth year of eligibility elsewhere. In a kind and respectful letter, Dawson thanked many of the coaches who helped him along his journey while in Ann Arbor.

“I would like to thank Coach Hoke, Coach Borges, Coach Funk, Coach Harbaugh, and Coach Drevno for allowing me to be part of an institution as illustrious as The University of Michigan. Not only a student but as a member of the football team. I have established bonds with coaches and teammates that will last a lifetime. I would also like to thank the Strength and Conditioning program and the Medical Staff. I appreciate everything that The University of Michigan has taught me and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to have obtained a quality education while playing football. With that being said, after much prayer and consideration, it is with a heavy heart to announce that I am reopening my recruitment to all Universities and football programs for my fifth year. I know that God has a plan for me and I am excited to see what’s next to come. Thank you for all of your love and support over the past 4 years. GO BLUE!”

Out of Cass Technical High School in the 2013 class, Dawson was a 4-star prospect, the No. 1 OG in the state of Michigan and helped comprise the nation’s No. 2 recruiting class for then head coach-Brady Hoke. Unfortunately, Dawson could never quite find his footing in the rotation, either under Hoke or Jim Harbaugh’s regime.

The decision to transfer offers Dawson one final chance to find a place to start and end his career by playing rather than competing for snaps with younger, more heralded players. He presents an excellent, veteran plug-in option for any program thin along the offensive line.

Dawson becomes the latest member of Michigan’s heralded 2013 class to transfer in the past month. Former 5-star quarterback Shane Morris announced his intent to leave Ann Arbor on December 6.
