Dollar General Bowl Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

Dollar General Bowl prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen between Ohio and Troy.

I wrote about MAC teams most of the season, and I really never knew what to make of Ohio. I love Tarell Basham, and Frank Solich is a coach everyone can respect. The Bobcats nearly put an end to Western Michigan’s bid for an undefeated season in the MAC title game, but now I’m really struggling with how they’re going to be able to stop this high-powered Troy offense.

The Trojans were the best offensive team in the Sun Belt thanks largely in part to Jordan Chunn, who rushed for 1,232 yards and 13 touchdowns. Brandon Silvers can pick apart defenses when he’s on, and he’ll do that to Ohio as Troy runs away with a two-touchdown victory.

Brandon Silvers has put together quite the year for the Trojans with 20 touchdowns to nine interceptions. Silvers is going to be the reason why Troy wins this ballgame. I think Ohio will make it close, but Silvers will find Emanuel Thompson and Deondre Douglas for one touchdown apiece, and the Trojans will win by one possession.

Head coach Neal Brown’s Trojans led the Sun Belt in yards per game at 438.6, as the offense rode the big-play ability of running back Jordan Chunn, who was one of two backs in the conference to average 100 rushing yards per contest. Along with quarterback Brandon Silvers, he benefited from a strong offensive line, which allowed the fewest sacks in the nation. Meanwhile, the Bobcats’ offense isn’t exactly going to light up scoreboards. D-Lineman Tarell Basham is a real force for Frank Solich’s squad, as he led the MAC with 10.5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss. There will be some resistance from Ohio’s ‘D,’ but the big-play ability of Troy is the difference as Chunn and the Trojans pull away in the fourth quarter for the win.

Fact (unconfirmed): this is the least amount of letters of two teams combined in bowl game history. Basically, this a matchup made for Twitter.

The Bobcats battled mightily against Western Michigan in the MAC Championship, ultimately falling 29-23. I expect the same effort, especially by a stout defense that allows just 22.2 points per game. This time it results in a victory over Troy.
