Dwyane Wade Will Sign One-Year Deal With Cavaliers

Dwyane Wade has agreed to a one-year, $2.3 million deal with the Cavaliers that will be finalized once he clears waivers on Wednesday.

Just two days after agreeing to a buyout with the Chicago Bulls, shooting guard Dwyane Wade has opted to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers on a one-year, $2.3 million deal. The signing will be official once Wade clears waivers on Wednesday.

While Wade originally considered the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and possibly a return to the Heat, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Wade wanted to join a contender.

Before he made his decision, Wade told the Associated Press earlier this week that whatever he chooses will be “a pure basketball decision and I’ll make the one that I feel fits me best at this point in my career and with what I feel I have to offer a team that needs what I have to offer.”

Wade averaged 18.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game with Chicago last season. His buyout agreement forced him to give back $8 million of his $23.2 million deal with the Bulls.

He’s teaming up with former Heat teammate LeBron James for the first time since 2014 after the duo helped Miami to two titles. While they were teammates for four years, both have been friends since entering the NBA in 2003.

With Wade on the roster, and the offseason additions of Isaiah Thomas, Derrick Rose and Jae Crowder on top of an already-stacked team, Wade and the Cavaliers might be well on their way to another ring. But can the Cavs take on whatever powerhouse comes out of the west?

Hey, if it doesn’t work out in Cleveland, we’re holding out hope for a banana boat reunion.
