Misdemeanor Complaint Filed Against Florida Kicker Eddy Pineiro

A misdemeanor complaint was filed against Florida Gators kicker Eddy Pineiro.

When the Gators took down former head coach Will Muschamp and his South Carolina Gamecocks last weekend, 20-7, Florida kicker Eddy Pineiro knocked home two extra points and two field goals, one of which was from 54 yards out — his longest of the season.

What we’re now learning is that five days prior to the win over South Carolina, on Nov. 7, a misdemeanor complaint for property damage was filed against Pineiro after he reportedly kicked two scooters and ripped their side mirrors off, according to the Gainesville Sun. The damage totaled $800.

When Florida head coach Jim McElwain was asked about his kicker’s availability for Saturday’s game against LSU, McElwain coyly said, “You know, I’m planning on it. Did he do something?”

The Gators will head to Baton Rouge after their matchup with the Tigers was rescheduled from Oct. 8 to Nov. 19 due to Hurricane Matthew.

Pineiro, who joined the Gators as a JUCO transfer in the 2016 recruiting class, has connected on 13-of-17 field goals this season and has converted all 25 extra point attempts. Two of those misses came from 30-39 yards out, and the two others were from 40-49 yards out. Pineiro has made all three of his attempts from 50-plus yards.

He was originally committed to Alabama on June 11, 2015, but decommitted on December 14, 2015 and flipped to the Gators the very next day.

Florida has three other placekickers on its roster: senior Neil MacInnes, redshirt sophomore Jorge Powell and freshman Daniel Justino. If Pineiro were to be held out, Powell would most likely take his place.

The redshirt sophomore made 2-of-3 field goals and 10 extra points last season for the Gators before suffering a season-ending injury against LSU.
