Four-Star CB Elijah Hicks Commits To Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Four-star cornerback Elijah Hicks committed to Notre Dame on Tuesday.

Hours after the Fighting Irish lost a commitment from 4-star defensive end Donovan Jeter, they picked up a verbal commitment from another 4-star recruit.

Elijah Hicks, the No. 25 cornerback and No. 259 overall player in the nation, committed to Notre Dame on Tuesday night, helping keep the Irish at No. 4 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings with 18 total commits. They would have dropped to No. 7 following Jeter’s decommitment.

Hicks announced his pledge in a video through 247Sports, and opened up on why he picked Brian Kelly’s Irish.

“I chose Notre Dame because, on my official visit, I felt comfortable, and it felt like home,” said Hicks. “One of my favorite quotes about Notre Dame is, ‘Other teams play college football. Notre Dame is college football,'” Hicks said.

The La Mirada, California native also spoke about his relationship with defensive backs coach Todd Lyght and attributed it as a big reason for why he felt the time was right to join the Irish’s class.

“Coach Lyght, I feel like he could give me the tools that [are] necessary to make it to the NFL and have a long career. Also, they have a rich tradition and great academic support,” Hicks said.

The No. 7-ranked cornerback in the state of California, Hicks also holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Michigan, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Washington and others.

His official visit to South Bend came last weekend when Notre Dame fell to Stanford, 17-10.
