Florida Gators Football Recruiting Update – December 4, 2016

A Florida Gators football recruiting update for the week of December 4, 2016.

What happened to the Gators on Saturday in Atlanta was embarrassing. Not only did Florida fall to Alabama, but it lost 54-16, ending with zero total rushing yards.

And that result certainly didn’t help Jim McElwain’s staff and their efforts on the recruiting trail.

On Sunday, it was reported that 3-star defensive tackle Javier Edwards decommitted from Florida following his visit to Arkansas this past weekend. Edwards is the second player to decommit from the Gators in the last week. Four-star defensive tackle Fred Hansard flipped his commitment from Florida to Penn State.

However, there may be some good news on the way. Four-star defensive end Zachary Carter did foreshadow a looming commitment with a recent tweet, and there are a few guys the Gators are gaining ground on.

McElwain and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier were set to meet with Jarrett Stidham on Sunday, and that would help the Gators tremendously if they were able to nab him away from his other suitors, Auburn and Texas A&M.

Florida is also looking to flip 4-star athlete Tray Bishop from Auburn. It’s also vying for commitments from 4-star athlete Christopher Henderson and 4-star cornerback Brad Stewart.

With two months remaining before National Signing Day, the Gators have their work cut out — especially considering the recruiting dead period sets in on Dec. 12. But there are some things in the works, and Florida will likely find its way back into the top 15 of the class rankings when it’s all said and done.
