Former Tennessee Player Bashes Lane Kiffin ‘Bailing’ On Players, NCAA For Transfer Policy

Former Tennessee defender Robert Ayers bashed Lane Kiffin for “bailing” on Alabama players prior to the title game, as well as the NCAA for its transfer policy.

Lane Kiffin did it again on Tuesday. After repairing his image under the tutelage of Nick Saban for three years, Kiffin found a way to once again exit from a job in a questionable manner. The split between the Crimson Tide and their offensive coordinator one week before the national championship game has raised plenty of eyebrows, especially those of former Tennessee and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer Robert Ayers.

For Ayers, a first-round draft pick in 2009, the way Kiffin left the Vols high and dry still apparently cuts deep. He shared his thoughts on the hypocrisy of both Kiffin’s statements, as opposed to the coach’s actions, and the NCAA on Tuesday after the news broke.

In Kiffin’s absence, former USC head coach Steve Sarkisian will assume the offensive coordinator duties. Saban hired Sarkisian earlier in the season in an analyst role, likely in an effort to rotate into the OC position should Kiffin make a coaching move. Sarkisian also replaced Kiffin for the Trojans following the 2013 season.
