Four-Star ATH Tray Bishop Decommits From Auburn, Florida And Georgia In Mix

Tray Bishop, a longtime Auburn commit and the nation’s No. 9 athlete, has reopened his recruiting process less than two months before signing day.

Auburn and Gus Malzahn have had a good few days, with the announcement of former Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham deciding to commit to the Tigers and running back Kam Pettway, the SEC’s leading rusher, saying he will be back next season.

But on Tuesday night, Malzahn and the Tigers received a bit of unfortunate news when four-star athlete Tray Bishop announced his decommitment.

Bishop played quarterback in high school, but recently said he would prefer to switch to defensive back at the next level. Despite his commitment to Auburn, he has continued to explore his options with fellow SEC teams Florida and Georgia.

He plans to take visits to all three before National Signing Day, and has not ruled the Tigers out.

Listed as an athlete by Scout, Bishop is ranked 2017’s No. 129 overall player and is the third best prospect in the state of Georgia.

The likely position for Bishop would be at safety, as he displays great closing speed and imposing size for the position at 6’3″ and 185 pounds, but he’ll have to develop his coverage skills at the collegiate level.
