Quincy Wilson On Brother Marco’s Future With The Gators: ‘He’ll Be Ready Day 1’

Florida cornerback Quincy Wilson spoke with Campus Insiders to discuss his brother, Marco Wilson’s, future with the Gators.

When Quincy Wilson was coming out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the 2014 recruiting class, he and his family looked high and low, did their research, and came to the same conclusion.

The Gators were the team for the former 3-star cornerback.

“So, we went to a number of schools, and after going to all the schools, everything just seemed right at Florida,” Chad Wilson, Quincy’s father, told the Gator Nation Football Podcast. “It just seemed like he would be well taken care of there, and not only just the football stuff but academically as well.”

Now, with Quincy having “arrived” in the sense of national recognition — with a first-round NFL Draft grade being discussed — the stage has been set for his brother to follow in his footsteps.

Marco Wilson, the No. 5 cornerback in Florida and the No. 30 cornerback in the country, has been committed to the Gators since Aug. 1, and their father sees his younger son walking into a similar situation to the one Quincy had when he went to Gainesville.

“As it comes around for Marco … even though the staff has changed, still all the other things were a factor,” Chad Wilson said of the non-football related benefits associated with Florida. “And then, on top of that, you’ve got another friendly depth chart situation. Marco has a chance to go in and compete, and, if he’s on his game, get some early playing time, and then go on from there.”

It seems as though Quincy agrees with his dad.

When the Gators cornerback spoke with Campus Insiders on Tuesday, he had high praise for his little brother.

“I feel like my brother, Marco Wilson, is very similar to me,” Quincy said. “He’s physical, and he’s much faster than I was coming out of high school. But his style of game is similar to mine because he’s watched me play. I just think he’ll be ready Day 1 when he steps on campus.”

Quincy may see a lot of similarities between his game and Marco’s, and he’s correct. But their father also made it a point to point out their differences.

“Quincy’s, obviously, big and fast. The size thing really works for him. Marco, on the other hand, is not Quincy’s size in terms of thickness, but  I have a feeling, when all is said and done, he may end up being taller than Quincy. But [he’s] super athletic. He’s the guy that does the backflips, the triple backflips, matter of fact, he became really, really famous off of a backflip catch,” Chad Wilson said. “Thats just a glimpse into his athleticism. So, he can do those kind of things. Quincy dares not [to] try any kind of a backflip.”
