3-Star OLB Jake Venables Commits To Clemson Tigers

Three-star outside linebacker Jake Venables committed to Clemson, giving the Tigers three total commits in their 2018 recruiting class.

Dabo Swinney’s Tigers are starting to pick up a little more momentum on the recruiting trail.

Clemson currently sits at No. 13 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings with 14 total commits, but the Tigers added another piece to their 2018 recruiting class on Sunday.

Three-star prospect Jake Venables committed to Clemson, as the Tigers now have three commits in the 2018 cycle.

Venables, who stands at 6-foot-2, 210 lbs, is the son of Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables.

The 3-star linebacker announced his pledge on his father’s birthday and mentioned that in a statement he released regarding his decision.

“First and foremost I would like to thank God for making all of this possible. I’d like to also say Happy Birthday to my dad! I want to thank my family and everybody that has encouraged, inspired, and supported me throughout this entire process. I want to thank Coach Swinney and the entire Clemson coaching staff for believing in me and giving me this incredible opportunity. I would also like to thank all of my teammates, teachers, and coaches for helping me achieve my goals. I want to thank Coach Scott Littlejohn at Flight School, for mentoring me and pushing me to the limits and to be my best. With all of that being said, I am blessed and excited to announce that I am 110% committed to Clemson University! [sic]”

Venables is the second recruit in the 2018 class to commit to Clemson, as the Tigers added a pledge from 5-star prospect Trevor Lawrence on Thursday night. Lawrence is the No. 1 quarterback and No. 1 player in the 2018 cycle.
