Jarrett Stidham On Florida Gators: ‘Their Offense Has Potential To Be Great’

With the Florida Gators, Jarrett Stidham sees a team with the potential to field a “great offense.”

Watching the SEC Championship Game between Florida and Alabama on Saturday, one thing was clearer than ever for the Gators: they are in desperate need of a competent quarterback. Ever since Tim Tebow’s departure from Gainesville, the once-prestigious position has been a revolving door.

Austin Appleby’s eligibility will be over after the bowl game, though he was never a longterm solution. Neither is Luke Del Rio, despite still having two years remaining. And the two freshman quarterbacks – Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask – are still a mystery, having both redshirted this season.

Given the departures on defense, it’ll be paramount that the Gators find an answer on offense, especially under center.

One potential solution to the quarterback position could be former Baylor star Jarrett Stidham, who is looking for a new home.

The Gators are making a push for Stidham, along with Auburn and Texas A&M.

“Their offense has the potential to be a great offense with the [offensive] line, and playmakers that they have,” Stidham told 247Sports on Saturday.

The pieces for the Gators are there, they just need a quarterback to bring it all together.

While Florida has ground to make up, Jim McElwain and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will get their crack at the former five-star recruit when they visit him on Sunday. First order of business is to convince Stidham to take a trip to Gainesville.

Stidham opted to leave Baylor following the off-field scandal that led to the firing of head coach Art Briles. In his one year with the Bears, Stidham saw the field in 10 games, throwing for 1,265 yards and 12 touchdowns, compared to only two interceptions, however the bulk of the action came in four games after Seth Russell was lost due to injury (at Kansas, at Kansas State, vs. Oklahoma, at Oklahoma State). Stidham completed 68.8% of his passes.
