Jay Tufele recruiting update: as of Tuesday, Dec. 20 the 4-star defensive tackle has set two January visits.
Ranked as the nation’s No. 3 defensive tackle and No. 37 player, Jay Tufele is one of the top uncommitted recruits left on the board. The South Jordan, Utah prospect is utilizing his time to fully evaluate all of his options, recently announcing two more visits he’ll take before National Signing Day (NSD).
Tufele announced his top seven schools – BYU, Michigan, Ohio State, UCLA, USC, Utah and Washington – back in September, and will now use two visits in January to see what the Trojans and Utes have to offer, according to Scout.
USC will welcome Tufele on Jan. 20, while Utah will get the last shot the weekend before NSD.
Tufele’s most recent trip was to Ohio State for the Buckeyes’ game against Michigan. He walked away impressed, describing his visit as “amazing.”
Prior to that, Tufele visited Michigan on Oct. 22 for the Wolverines’ game against Illinois. Jim Harbaugh also paid Tufele a visit on Dec. 2, making him a priority ahead of the recruiting dead period.
Despite having narrowed his choices down to a top seven earlier in the season, Michigan, Ohio State and Utah are believed to be the clubhouse leaders in his recruitment. With the home-state Utes getting the last visit before signing day, head coach Kyle Whittingham is in a good position to sway the four-star prospect.
Tufele is listed at 6’3″ and 297 pounds, with tremendous athleticism and speed for a defensive tackle.
